The Grumman TBM Avenger was one of the U.S. Navy’s primary torpedo bombers during World War II. Built in May 1945, this TBM-3E served at multiple naval air stations across the United States and later supported anti-submarine training missions as military aviation shifted toward the Cold War era. Avengers like this one were known for their rugged design, long range, and ability to operate from aircraft carriers in demanding conditions.

After military service that continued into the early 1960s, the aircraft entered civilian ownership before joining the Missouri Wing of the Commemorative Air Force in 2000. Today it flies as a living history aircraft, preserving the legacy of the crews who operated Avengers in wartime and training missions. Public appearances allow new generations to see and hear a working example of one of the most important naval aircraft of its time.
